RISE: Resource Centre for Independent Living

RISE is a consumer-controlled, community-based, non-profit resource centre which means that our services and managerial structures will be governed by a minimum of 51% of people with disabilities. We help people with disabilities to learn Independent Living skills and integrate into the community through a wide range of programs and services. We encourage people with disabilities to take control of their own lives by exercising their right to examine options, make choices, take risks and even make mistakes. As a fully accredited member of Independent Living Canada, RISE is one of 27 Centres which exist to promote the full participation of persons with disabilities as citizens.

"I have found self-managing wonderful! I now know that I can get up when I want, I can decide who I want to help me in and out of my bath, I don't have to worry about having so many people in my home from so many different agencies."
- 26-year-old woman living with children
